Film Humidity Issues
Curling, sticking, or fog from film stored outside target RH.
Likely Causes
Storage outside 40–55% RH: Coating absorbs/desorbs moisture.
Bringing cold film into a warm, humid room: Condensation forms on the film surface.
Direct exposure to sunlight or HVAC vents: Causes localized drying or moisture changes.
Film roll left open to ambient air for extended periods: Outer layers of film are most affected.
Quick Checks
- Acclimate rolls in print room 24h.
- Measure room humidity; ensure it is within 40-55%.
- Feel the film surface for any tackiness or dampness.
- Unroll a few feet of film and check for flatness.
Step-by-Step Fix
Use dry cabinet / sealed bins — Maintains RH window.
Acclimate new film rolls for at least 4 hours before use — Allows film to stabilize to room conditions.
Store rolls vertically and in their original packaging — Prevents pressure marks and protects from dust.
Install a humidifier or dehumidifier to maintain stable room RH — Creates a consistent production environment.
Acceptance Criteria
- Flat feed; no sticking in printer path.
